- **Developer Preview** (Neue Funktion, 13. Juli 2026): Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server for Google Sheets: New Developer Preview for MCP server enabling AI applications and agents to securely interact with spreadsheets for reading values, updating formulas, and taking other actions.

- **Smart chips now generally available** (Neue Funktion, 17. Juni 2025): Google Drive and People chips for Google Sheets API are now generally available (moved from preview to GA), enabling creation, update, and reading of smart chips.
- **Smart chips support now generally available** (Neue Funktion, 17. Juni 2025): Google Drive and People chips can now be created, updated, and read in Google Sheets API, moving from preview to general availability.

### April 2025

- **Table creation and management features released** (Neue Funktion, 29. Apr. 2025): New capability to create, update, and perform basic actions on tables using the Sheets API with new Table object support.
- **Table creation and management support added** (Neue Funktion, 29. Apr. 2025): New ability to create, update, and perform basic actions on tables in Google Sheets using the Sheets API with new Table object support.
- **Table creation and modification support** (Neue Funktion, 29. Apr. 2025): New capability to create, modify tables, and take basic actions on tables using the Sheets API, including new Table object in reference.

### August 2021

- **Google Sheets API v3 turned down** (Breaking Change, 2. Aug. 2021): API v3 has been deprecated and shut down; developers must migrate to v4 with migration guide provided.

### Juni 2016

- **Google Sheets API v4 released** (Neue Funktion, 15. Juni 2016): General availability announcement of Google Sheets API v4 as the new major version of the API.
